Is it safe to have massage during pregnancy? Yes

The benefits of regular massage treatments throughout your pregnancy are many. It can improve your physical comfort by reducing muscular tension and stress on joints caused by the postural shifts that accommodate the extra weight of a growing baby, and alleviates and prevents sciatica. It reduces swelling, reduces the presence of cortisol and increases the feel good hormones, serotonin and dopamine, and it assists baby’s development by supporting circulation and increasing oxygen and nutrient delivery to baby. Lastly, it’s a great way to prep for birth by increasing hip and pelvic flexibility and easing muscular tension.

Can I lie on my belly?

In the early stages of pregnancy, the mother-to-be will be positioned in whatever manner she is most comfortable, including on her tummy if she prefers. In later stages of pregnancy, the treatment is given with the mother-to-be lying on her side, with bolsters, pillows and cushions supporting the legs and belly for comfort. Positioning during a massage is critical to the safety and well-being of both the mother and baby. Sorry mamas, massage tables with belly cut outs are not recommended and therefore, not used by any of the therapists

at Nunyara.
